Indian Welding Society
Indian Welding Society is a Professional Body devoted to welding in India. IWS is registered on 14th March 2002 under the Societys Act with its head quarters at New Delhi. IWS is promoted by Welding Professionals from leading Fabrication Industries, Academic & Research Institutes and progressive minded Welding Consumable & Equipment Manufacturers. IWS has a federal structure with five Zones and Centres attached to each zone. IWS is governed by a National Governing Council elected by all members by a postal ballet system. IWS publishes a quarterly IWS JOURNAL, which is issued to its members. IWS is a founder member of Asian Welding Federation (AWF). IWS is partnering with Messe Dusseldorf India, Messe Essen, DVS (German Welding Society) in conducting International Trade Fairs and Seminars in Welding & Cutting, Thermal Spray etc. IWS is associating with IL&FS, IGNOU and other institutions for training grass root man power required for welding & fabrication industry. IWS is working with various academic institutions in conducting Degree & Diploma, Courses, Certification & Distance Learning Programs in welding.

Online Webinar on Secondary Manufacturing Processes (14.05.2020)
Department of Mechanical Engineering in Association with SAE India Collegiate Club of RIT, RIT Indian Welding Society Student Forum & RIT ISTE Student Chapter organised webinar on Secondary Manufacturing Process on 14.05.2020 between 5.00pm to 6.30pm. Mr.M.Lakshmanan, AP (S.G)/Mech & Mr.S.Maharajan, AP/Mech were the speakers in this session. We got 143 responses from both faculties and students from various institutions across TamilNadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. 93 participants have actively participated in the webinar. Online platform, Microsoft team was used for the entire session.
Online Webinar on Overview of Gas Shielded Welding Processes and Their Advancements (24.05.2020)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with RIT Indian Welding Society Student Forum & RIT ISTE Student Chapter organised an Online webinar on "Overview of Gas Shielded Welding Processes and Their Advancements" on 24.05.2020 between 10.30am to 12.00pm . We got 313 registrations across all parts of India. More than 225 Participants have attended the session. The session was highly informative and had good welding technological content. The session was handled by Mr.N.Rajasekaran, DGM, BHEL, Trichy. The online platform Microsoft Meeting was used and the entire session was recorded. The recorded video was uploaded in RIT MECH Manufacturing YouTube Channel.
Online Webinar on Thermal Barrier Coating (24.09.2020)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with RIT Indian Welding Society Student Forum organised an Online webinar on "Thermal Barrier Coating" on 24.09.2020 between 4.00pm to 05.30pm. We got 101 registrations across all parts of India. More than 80 Participants have attended the session. Mr.S.Maharajan, RIT IWS Faculty coordinator welcomed the gathering. The technical session was handled by Dr.M.Adam Khan, Associate Professor, Kalasaligam Academy of Research and Education, KrishnanKoil. He shared his valuable thoughts in his own research experience, challenges faced in the field of Thermal Barrier coating. He also gave future scope and research gap in this field. The participants have given very good feedback about the complete session including content delivery by expert speaker, Organizer's timely communication and coordination.
Online Webinar on Biodegradable Biomaterials (30.12.2020)
Department of Mechanical Engineering in Association RIT Indian Welding Society Student Forum, RIT MECHANIZO, RIT IIC & RIT IE(I) organised Online webinar on Biodegradable Biomaterials on 30.12.2020 between 5.00pm to 6.00pm. The session was handled by Dr.R.Vignesh, CEG campus, Anna University. The main objective of this webinar is to impart knowledge and skills in the area of Biomaterials An insight into Biodegradable Biomaterials to all students, faculty members, research scholars and other delegates from various institutions and organizations. The expert speaker provides various information in his presentation and creates awareness in this field and scope for further improvement in future. The following points has been discussed and disseminated to all participants.
- To provide an overview of all materials those are used in biomedical applications.
- To understand different biomaterials; metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites.
- To impart all participants to the evaluation, characterization, and testing of biomaterials.
- To bring all the participants to the selection of processing techniques of bio materials fabrication
- To provide a detailed understanding of the interaction of biomaterials with surrounding tissues.
- To provide information about current research in biomaterials and its opportunities.

One Day Workshop on Welding of Emerging Power Plant Materials (03.02.2020)
Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ramco Institute of Technology and RIT - Indian Welding Society Students Forum jointly organized a One day Workshop on Welding Emerging Power Plant Materials on 3rd February 2020 (Monday) to RIT IWS students Members at Mechanical Seminar Hall, RIT, Rajapalayam. Dr.S.Rajakarunakaran, HOD/Mech, Mr.S.Maharajan, AP/Mech, Mr.J.Jeorld John Britto, AP(S.G)/Mech coordinated the event. The program started with the invocation Tamil Thai Valthu. Mr.S.Maharajan, AP/Mechanical, and RIT IWS coordinator welcomed the gathering. Dr.P. Suresh Kumar, Associate Professor/Mechanical presides over the function. The Chief Guest of the Event Mr.N.Rajasekaran, Hon. Secretary (IWS) & DGM (Unit II), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchirappalli has delivered the inaugural address. The sessions are planned and handled by three eminent resource persons from BHEL, Trichy. Mr.S.Singaravelu, Consultant and Former AGM, WTC, BHEL, Vice Chairman, IWS (South Zone) delivered in lecture the topic of Advanced Materials for Power Plant Industries. Mr.N.Parameswaran, Former DGM, BHEL, Zonal Executive Committee Member, IWS ( South Zone) delivered in the topic of Testing and Weldability of Stainless Steel and Mr.N.Rajasekaran, DGM, BHEL, Hon. Secretary, IWS delivered on the topic of Processing of 9Cr-1Mo Steel and Welding Defects.
RIT-IWS Inauguration (03.01.2019)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam has organized an Inaugural function of RIT-IWS 2018-2019 on 03.01.2019 (Thursday). The Chief Guest Mr.A.Maruthamuthu, Chairman (IWS, SZ) & General Manager (DTG), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchirappalli has delivered the inaugural address. He explained the importance of becoming the members of Indian Welding Society. Students will be beneficial by attending workshop, conferences and technical events organised by Indian Welding Society Students Forum. Students will get industrial exposure in advanced welding Technology and its applications by attending industrial experts technical talks from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and Welding Research Institute, Tiruchirappalli. Mr.N.Rajasekaran, Hon.Secretary (IWS) & DGM (Unit II), BHEL, Tiruchirappalli and Mr.R.Ravibharath, Hon.Treasurer (IWS, SZ) & Deputy Manager (WRI), BHEL, Tiruchirappalli have offered felicitations.

Hands on Training and Technical Talk on Modern Surface Coating Technology (03.08.2019)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam has organised hands on training and technical talk on Modern Surface Coating Technology in Surface Engineering for students those who are pursuing value added course MVA009 Surface Coating Technology and Indian Welding Society Students Members on 03.08.2019 (Saturday) during 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
The Expert Speaker Dr. M.Adam Khan, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, University of Johannesburg, South Africa delivered the lecture on topic Modern Surface coating Technology in Surface Engineering and handled sessions on hands on training on surface coating technology. 42 students members have attended the session. The Faculty Coordinator Mr.S.Maharajan, AP/Mechanical welcomed the expert speaker and gatherings.
Mechanical Department Association RIT- Mechanizo & RIT - IWS conducted a seminar on "Advancement of Welding in Boilers Industries" during 06.07.2019 for Mechanical Engineering students. Mr.N.RAJASEKARAN, (IWS Secretary) Deputy General Manager, Unit II Production, BHEL, Tiruchirapalli has graciously consented to be the Chief Guest and delivered the Seminar topic.
