The Institution of Engineers (India), Student Chapter - MECH

Chapter Code: 626117/RIT/MC

The Institution of Engineers, India student chapter was started in our department in December 2018. Various activities like workshops, Webinars, Competitions, etc., are conducted from IE(I) for the benefit of student members to showcase and improve their skills.

The benefits of being a member of the IE students chapter are the following:

  • Participation in various Technical Activities of the students chapter.
  • Opportunity to meet fellow engineers for professional interaction.
  • Technical papers presented in the Seminar and Technical Sessions by students are awarded in the Annual Convocation and Technicians/ Students Convention.
  • The Students Chapters may participate in Regional Conclave to be organized in the emerging field of engineering by engineering college and polytechnic region wise.
  • The opportunity to participate in technical events e.g. seminars, Symposia, Conventions, Workshops, etc were organized by IEI State/Local Centres.
  • The Students Chapter Newsletter is distributed amongst the Chapter members which is sent to the advisers. IEI Students Chapter Newsletter may be also browsed through ieindia.org.
  • Access to library facilities at State/Local Centres of the Institution across the country

SPACE ODYSSEY A JOURNEY FROM SEASHORE TO RED PLANET

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online webinar for students titled Space Odyssey A Journey from Seashore to Red Planet on 19.06.2021 from11 PM to 12 PM. Around 68 participants attended the program. Dr. N. Sivasubramanian, Former Senior Scientist, Chief General Manager, ISRO ,Trivandrum acted as resource person for the event. The resource person started with Brief history of Indian space, Indian Space Vision and handled the topics about Chandrayaan 1 in 2008, Lunar orbit, Space shuttle, Commercialization of Space products and services, Rocket propulsion, Vikas Engine, MARS ORBITOR Mission, Thrust chamber Fabrication etc., and advised students and faculties to think out of box concepts and have broad minded. Mr.R.Prabhakaran, AP/Mech delivered welcome address and Dr.V.Sivakumar, ASCP/Mech introduced the resource person of this event. Mr. L. Karthikeyan, AP/Mech acted as a moderator for the whole event and delivered vote of thanks. Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech acted as coordinator for the entire session.

Introduction to Computer Aided PCB Design

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop for students titled Introduction to Computer Aided PCB Design on 03.06.2021 from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM. Around 110 participants attended the program. Dr. N. Pothirasan, Hashan Medicare acted as resource person for the event. He explained the basic components required for electronics and their specifications. He also given demo about drawing PCB circuit and simulating circuit using proteus software. He anwserd all the questions asked by participants at the end of the session. Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech coordinated the entire session. Mr. A. Vashistar, IV Mech, Mr. M. Thojesh Nandha, III Mech, Mr. S. Sridharan, III Mech, and Mr. M. Nalliraj Madhavan, III Mech acted as a student coordinator for the event.

NX CAD

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop for students titled NX CAD for Beginners on 10.04.2021 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Around 180 participants attended the program. Mr. S. Santhosh, 2018 22 batch, Department of Mechanical Engineering, RIT acted as resource person for the event. He clearly explained the basic concepts in modeling, he also explained the sequence of activities need to be done during assembling a component. He also drafted a 3D component, he explained the usage of rendering in NX CAD. Participants clarified their doubt at the end of the session. Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech coordinated the entire session. Moodle for Blended Teaching & Learning

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop for students and faculty members titled Moodle for Blended Teaching & Learning Process on 28.02.2021 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. Around 42 members participated the event. Dr. K. S. Sekar, Senior Professor, Murugappa Polytechnic College, Chennai acted as resource person for the event. He explained the ways to create quiz, setting date, time limit, Auto grading options and various aspects of moodle. Many participants clarified their doubt at the end of the session. Mr. A. Vashistar, IV Mech, Mr. M. Thojesh Nandha, III Mech and Mr. S. Sridharan, III Mech coordinated the event under the guidance of Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech, RIT.

IoT using Raspberry Pi for Beginners

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop for faculty and student members titled IoT using Raspberry Pi for Beginners on 08.01.2021 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. The event is started by 3.00 PM exactly. Er.S.Rajagopal, FIE, Chairman, IEI Local Centre delivered welcome address followed by Mr.P.Suresh Kumar, Associate Professor/Mechanical, Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam felicitated the function. The chief guest intro was given by Mr.J.Jabinth, AP/Mechanical, RIT. The Resource person explained the history of Internet of Things and its evolution. Then, he explained the basics of Raspberry pi and its components. He explained the raspberry pi with VNC Viewer and Putty software by taking it in remote. He also explained the structure of Raspberry pi along with an example program by blinking an LED. Later, he used DHT sensor to measure the temperature and humidity of the atmosphere with the help of Raspberry Pi. He also run fan automatically based on the atmospheric condition. He also explained Thing speak environment in which all the data collected from Raspberry Pi can be dumped in cloud, which can be collected as excel sheet for continuous monitoring. Er.R.Narayanasamy, MIE, Local Madurai Centre delivered vote of thanks for the session. Totally, 425 registrations were received across all major cities and regions of our country. Out of which 101 participants attended via Google Meet Platform and 124 participants viewed through YouTube streaming.

Teaching Learning Process in Engineering Education

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online webinar for faculty members titled Teaching Learning Process in Engineering Education on 29.12.2020 from 6 PM to 7 PM. The event is started by 06.00 PM, Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech delivered welcome address and invited the resource person of the day. The resource person explained about the teaching learning process traditionally used and their drawbacks. He also explained the way in which assessments like assignments, quiz can be carried out, which will help students to inculcate self-learning behaviour. Mr. S. Sridharan, III Mech delivered vote of thanks. Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech, coordinated the session. Around 70 faculty members participated the event.

Units in Engineering & Scientific Calculations

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online webinar series for faculty and student members titled Units in Engineering & Scientific Calculations from 03.12.2020 to 05.12.2020 from 3 PM to 4 PM. In day 1, Dr. P. Suresh Kumar, Assoc. Prof, RIT acted as resource person. He explained the evolution of units and also the basic factors based on which measurements are defined. In Day 2, Mr. C. Gururaj, AP(SG), RIT acted as resource person. He explained various concepts and units in design. In Day 3, Mr.M.Ashok Kumar, AP, RIT acted as resource person. He explained the units in thermal engineering and its key concepts. Students interacted with the resource person and clarified their doubts. Mr.J.Jabinth, AP/Mech Co-ordinated the event.. Mr.M.Thojesh Nandha (III Mech) Mr. S.Sridharan, III Mech, Mr. A. Vashistar, IV Mech acted as student Co-ordinator for the event. Around 100 students and faculty members participated the event.

ME8594 Dynamics of Machines - A Way to Excel in AU Online MCQ

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online webinar for students titled ME8594 Dynamics of Machines - A Way to Excel in AU Online MCQ on 23.11.2020 from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. Mr. C. Gururaj, AP(SG)/Mechanical delivered welcome address and invited the resource person of the day. the resource person gave a talk about the importance of learning and the procedure to learn the engineering subjects. Then He gave a brief lecture to all the units of ME8594 Dynamics of Machines subject. The lecture was focused on the Anna University Online Multiple Choice Questions Examination. At last he issued a model MCQ sets to the participants to practice. Mr. J. Jabinth AP/Mechanical moderated the Program and Mr. L. Karthikeyan, AP/Mechanical delivered the Vote of Thanks. Around 80 participants attended the webinar.

Introduction to Operations Research in Engineering

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop for students and faculty members titled Introduction to Operations Research in Engineering on 22.11.2020 from 4 PM to 5:15 PM. Around 163 participants attended the program. Dr. T. Venogopal, Professor, Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, Sri Sathya Sai University, Kalaburagi acted as a resource person for the event. He explained the various methods of OR that can be implemented in Engineering, He also showed a demo of solving OR problems using Excel solver. Poster Design using CANVA

The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop for students titled Poster Design using CANVA on 08.11.2020 from 5 PM to 6 PM. Around 70 students participated in the event. Mr. V. Sunil Prabha, IV Year Mechanical (2017 21 batch) acted as a resource person for the event. He added the basic information about the basic tools and options that are present in the CANVA. He worked with changing the background of an image, multiple layer creation, designing posters, and Certificates. Mr. A. Vashistar, IV Mech, Mr. M. Thojesh Nandha, III Mech, and Mr. S. Workshop on Basic Tools in Photoshop

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the Institution of Engineers (India) organized a Workshop on "Basic Tools in Photoshop" on 08.08.2020 from 11.00 AM - 12.00 PM. 110 participants from various institutions and organizations all over from Tamil Nadu attended the session. The resource person, Mr. S. Valai Ganesh, AP/MECH, RIT, gave a brief introduction about Photoshop and various versions available. The students actively participated and learned about the basic tools in Photoshop. Mr. N. Sathish Kumar, IV Mech, Mr. A. Vashistar, IV Mech, and Mr. M. Awareness about the Institution of Engineers (India)

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the Institution of Engineers (India) organized a webinar on Awareness about IE(I) on 16.08.2020 from 06.00 PM - 07.15 PM. 125 participants in which includes students, faculty members of various colleges, and industrial persons from all over Tamil Nadu attended the session. The Expert Speaker, Mr. P. Rajamani, Council Member (EL), Former Vice President IE (I) demonstrated the list of activities carried out in the Institution of Engineers (I) elaborately. The entire program was handled and coordinated by Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech, RIT.

Group Discussion on Impact of Covid-19

On behalf of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with IE(I) Student ChapterMECH we have conducted a Group Discussion on Impact of Covid-19 for students (Internal & External). At first preliminary round (Round -I) was conducted on 12.08.2020 (7 PM 8 PM). The second round Group Discussion held on 19.08.2020 (7 PM 8 PM) through Google Meet on the topic Impact of Covid-19. The Jury member of the Group Discussion was Mr. M. Anish Alfred Vaz, AP(SG)/English, Ramco Institute of Technology. Group Discussion held around 45 minutes and marks awarded to the participants by the jurys criteria. The overall event is coordinated by Mr. N.L. Sujin, AP/Mech, Ramco Institute of Technology and student coordinator S. Balaji, IV/Mech, Student Secretary A. Vashistar, IV Mech, M. Thojesh Nandha, III Mech and S. Sridharan, III Mech.

Filing & Processing International Patent Applications - Seminar

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the Institution of Engineers (India) organized a Seminar on Filing & Processing International Patent Applications on 22.08.2020 from 06.00 PM - 07.00 PM. The resource person, Mr. Samprati Basant, Panasian IP Services, Registered Patent Agent & Advocate, demonstrated the importance of filing international patent rights. In this session around 151 members participated through google meet which includes students, faculty members of various colleges, and industrial people. The entire program was handled and coordinated by Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech, RIT.

Concepts & Applications of Physics, Chemistry InTechnology

Ramco Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with IE(I) MECH, Two-day webinar for students and faculty members (Internal & External) from 05-09-2020 to 06-09-2020. 121 participants from various institutions and organizations attended the session. Dr. O. Senthil Kumar, Associate Professor/HOD Chemistry, and Dr. P. Thiruramanathan, Assistant Professor/Physics acted as resource person for the event. They both demonstrated various concepts in chemistry & physics and clarified doubts asked by students and faculty members. Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech coordinated the entire session, and Mr. M. The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ramco Institute of Technology, and Institution of Engineers, India student chapter organized an online workshop titled Virtual tools for Teaching & Learning Process on 27.09.2020 to know the various online tools available for making the online teaching process effective. The resource person Dr. K. S. Sekar, Senior Lecturer/Mechanical, Murugappa Polytechnic College, Chennai explained about various tools like Insert learning, whiteboard, Google classroom, interactive presentation using joinpd.com, Jam board. The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with the Institution of Engineers (India) organized a Workshop on "Introduction to TracePro Software" on 11.10.2020 from 06.00 PM - 07.00 PM. 95 participants from received across all major cities and regions of our country attended the session. The resource person, Mr. K. Vigneshwaran, AP/MECH, RIT, gave brief information about the basic tools and options present in the TracePro Software. The students actively participated and learned about the Optical light reflection in TracePro Software. Mr. A. Vashistar, IV Mech, Mr. M. Thojesh Nandha, III Mech, and Mr. S. Sridharan, III Mech coordinated the event under the guidance of Mr. J. Jabinth, AP/Mech, RIT.

Importance of patent and Innovation in Engineering

On behalf of RIT, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IE (I), IIC we have conducted an online seminar for the internal students on the topic Importance of patent and Innovation in Engineering on 17.10.2020. 18 students participated through google meet which includes internal students from, Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam. The Expert Speaker, Dr.S.Godwin Barnabas, Associate professor/RIT explained the opportunities of creating innovations in various fields like agriculture and other societal benefit projects for the disabled ones, environmental protection projects. "Basic App Development using Flutter"

Ramco Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with IE(I) MECH, organized a webinar for students and faculty members (Internal & External) on 25-10-2020. 110 participants from various institutions and organizations attended the session. Mr. S. Pratheesh Russell, Flutter Developer, Agile Cyber Solutions, Nagercoil acted as the resource person for the workshop.
