LABORATORY FACILITIES
SURVEYING AND LEVELING LABORATORY
Survey & Leveling Laboratory has been established in the year 2013 and over an area of 166sq.m. and it serves the needs of Civil Engineering basic plane surveying and supports advanced surveying courses as well as to prepare maps and plans which are used in various constructions. It is very spacious that can accommodate 30 students to get demonstrated with sophisticated facilities. The lab is equipped with total station, GPS, Theodolite, Auto level, Prismatic and Surveyor Compass and other minor instruments. Students can be well trained to use all surveying equipments and have adequate knowledge to carryout Triangulation surveying including general field marking for various engineering projects and curves setting, prepare LS & CS, contour maps and carryout surveying works related to civil engineering projects. Students get knowledge on how to use both conventional and contemporary tools to collect field data. Consultancy works such as topographical survey, LS and CS, Contour maps have also been carried out for our trusted clients.

CENTRE FOR GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY
The Geospatial Technology Centre is equipped with a Total Station, DGPS, a professional drone, an auto level, and an EDM. We have signed MOUs with Land Coordinates Technologies for workshops, faculty development programs, and short-term training initiatives. Additionally, we utilized DGPS to conduct consulting work for the expansion of the Vettaiperumal Temple. Through the Centre for Geospatial Technology, faculty members received training on cutting-edge surveying equipment. In addition to conducting workshops for students, we also hosted sessions for academics and industry professionals. The centre features two i7 computers dedicated to post-processing using Bentley software.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY
(Water and Wastewater Analysis Laboratory)
The Environmental Engineering Laboratory (Water and Wastewater Analysis Laboratory), established in 2015 and covering an area of 109 sq.m, is equipped to support laboratory coursework for undergraduate students as well as experimental research for both students and faculty. The Environmental Engineering Laboratory provides testing and consultancy services to various organizations, construction companies, industries, and government bodies. It features modular laboratory tables and granite-topped working platforms. The laboratory conducts a range of experimental studies, including the physical and chemical analysis of drinking water, tests for assessing water suitability for construction purposes, and characteristic analysis of domestic and industrial wastewater. The equipment available in the laboratory includes a spectrophotometer, flame photometer, BOD incubator, COD refluxing unit, sterilization chamber, jar test apparatus, nephelometric turbidity meter, muffle furnace, autoclave, bacteriological incubator, simple microscope, water distillation unit, colony counter, and Kjeldahl apparatus.


HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING LABORATORY
The Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory, established with a mission to educate students on all aspects of fluid mechanics, spans an area of 181 sq. m. This laboratory is designed for experimentation and research on open channel and pipe flows, performance testing of pumps and turbines, and hydraulic model studies. It provides comprehensive facilities for students, ensuring that all tests are conducted in compliance with safety standards to protect the health and safety of students, lab technicians, and faculty. Major equipment in the laboratory includes flow measuring devices such as orifices, mouthpiece notches, weirs, venturimeters, orificemeters, pitot tubes, and rotameters. Additionally, the laboratory features apparatus for studying venturiflumes, verifying Bernoullis theorem, and determining metacentric height. It also contains a pipe friction apparatus for assessing major and minor losses, equipment for analyzing the impact of jets on vanes, and a variety of pumps including vane and gear pumps, centrifugal pumps (both single and multistage), reciprocating pumps, and submersible pumps as well as turbines such as Pelton wheel, Francis, and Kaplan turbines.


SOIL MECHANICS LABORATORY
The Soil Mechanics Laboratory is established over an area of 105 sq.m and is equipped with facilities to carry out various experiments on soils. This lab primarily facilitates the determination of soil Index properties and Engineering properties.Index properties include Moisture content, Specific gravity, Grain size distribution, Density, Relative density, and Atterberg limits (Liquid limit, Plastic limit, and Shrinkage limit). Engineering properties include Shear strength parameters, CBR Ratio, Permeability, and Consolidation parameters.The laboratory houses major equipment for determining Index and Engineering properties, such as Hot Air Oven, Hydrometer with High-speed stirrer, Brass sieves with Mechanical shaker, Permeability Apparatus, Proctor Compaction test Apparatus, Vibrating table, Direct Shear test setup, Unconfined Compression test setup, Vane Shear test Apparatus, Triaxial Shear test setup, and Consolidation test setup.Specialized equipment such as Modified Shear test Apparatus, Geotextile Permeameter, Hydrodynamic Sieve Apparatus, and Rapid Moisture Meter supports Research activities.In addition to Academic and Research activities, the laboratory offers Consultancy services to clients and organizations. These services include Determination of Safe Bearing Capacity (SBC) of soil using the Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Identification of Maximum Dry Density and Optimum Moisture Content through Compaction tests, and Classification of soil through Wet sieve analysis.


CONCRETE AND HIGHWAY ENGINEERING LABORATORY
The concrete and highway engineering laboratory is established over an area of 148 sq. m and is fully equipped with equipment for casting and testing concrete and pavement materials. it supports research and student project work. major equipment available for assessing materials and determining both fresh and hardened properties of concrete includes: for cement and aggregates, the vicat needle apparatus, le chatelier mould, vibrating machine, flow table, and blaines air permeability apparatus; length gauge, thickness gauge, crushing and impact value apparatus, los angeles abrasion testing machine, bulk density measures, density baskets, and test sieves. for fresh and hardened properties of concrete, the lab features a slump cone, compaction factor apparatus, vee bee consistometer, vibrating table, scc flowability testing equipment (l box, u box, v-funnel, j ring, and flow table), a machine mixer, a compression testing machine with a 2000 kn capacity (ctm), a flexure testing machine, an impact testing machine (for compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength), as well as a rebound hammer test and a rapid chloride penetration test (rcpt).
the highway engineering laboratory is well equipped with various equipment to assess the properties of bitumen and bituminous mixes, including a bitumen centrifuge extractor, marshall stability apparatus, benkelman beam, bitumen impact tester, universal penetrometer, tar viscometer, ductility testing apparatus, coating thickness gauge, film stripping machine, and ring and ball apparatus. additionally, the laboratory provides consultancy services for both government and private firms to evaluate the properties of cement, concrete, brick, bitumen, and other building materials. all equipment is maintained and serviced periodically in accordance with the standards set by the national accreditation board for testing and calibration laboratories (nabl) certification.


CAD DIGITALIZED CONSTRUCTION LABORATORY
The lab is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced software tools, including AutoCAD for 2D and 3D drafting, ETABS for structural analysis, Primavera for efficient project management, Bentley BIM Software 2024 for advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM), and powerful simulation tools such as Ansys17.0 and Abaqus 6.14 for detailed engineering analysis. These tools enable students and professionals to explore diverse applications, from structural design and optimization to advanced simulations and digital construction workflows. Beyond academic learning, the lab actively engages in consultancy services, offering expertise in structural design, project planning, and geospatial data applications. As a hub of innovation, it houses specialized Centres of Excellence, including the ICT Academy Centre for skill development in emerging technologies, the BIM Centre for promoting sustainable and collaborative construction practices, and the Centre for Geospatial Lab, which focuses on GIS and remote sensing technologies. Faculty and students collaborate on cutting-edge research in areas such as structural engineering, geospatial applications, and simulation-driven design, producing impactful results through hands-on projects and real-world problem-solving. The Laboratory is supported by Data Centre and all computers are connected via network. CAD Lab has equipped with 40 high end latest Configuration Computer Systems, Laser Printer, Scanner, A3 Plotter.


RIT-CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM)
The Department of Civil Engineering, Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam, has established the RIT Centre of Excellence for Building Information Modeling (BIM - A Futuristic Lab) in collaboration with Bentley Education and TechApps Consulting, Chennai with cutting-edge industry-relevant software catering to diverse sub-domains of Civil Engineering. A MoU was signed between RIT and TechApps for Bentleys software training and knowledge transfer among students and faculty members. RIT BIM Laboratory has equipped with the Bentley Softwares like STAAD.Pro Connect Edition, Open Buildings Designer, Open Roads Designer and other products available for academics from Bentley Education which facilitates the students to do simulation and projects. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a fascinating and essential technology for students pursuing careers in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related fields. It's like a digital playground where students can bring their architectural or engineering visions to life in a virtual environment. BIM allows them to create detailed 3D models of buildings and infrastructure, and it goes beyond just visual representation. It's a treasure trove of information about every aspect of a building, from structural elements to plumbing and electrical systems. As a student, learning how to use BIM software and techniques not only equips them with valuable technical skills but also prepares you for the collaborative and data-driven nature of the modern construction industry. RIT ICT ACADEMY CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR DESIGN POWERED BY AUTODESK
The Department of Civil Engineering, Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam, has established the RIT Centre of Excellence for design powered by Autodesk in collaboration with ICT Academy for cutting-edge industry-relevant software catering to diverse sub-domains of Civil Engineering. RIT Design laboratory has equipped with the Autodesk software like Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection, Robot Structural Analysis professionals, Advance Steel, Structural bridge Design, Navis work, Fabrication CADmep, AutoCAD Takeoff, Geospatial Infraworks. The Autodesk provides students with a set of BIM and CAD tools supported by a cloud-based common data environment that facilitates project delivery from early-stage design through to construction. Its Create high-quality, high-performing building and infrastructure designs with conceptual and detailed design tools, Optimise projects with integrated analysis, generative design, and visualisation and simulation tools and Improve predictability in the field with tools that maximise constructability and project coordination. Autodesk offers tools like AutoCAD Map 3D and InfraWorks for students studying geography, geospatial sciences, or urban planning. These tools assist in creating maps, analysing spatial data, and designing infrastructure. Its Also provides educational resources, tutorials, and a learning community to help students gain proficiency in using their software. Students can access these resources to enhance their skills and knowledge.

CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES LABORATORY
Construction Practice Labs established in 2022, its provide a hands-on learning environment where students can apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world construction scenarios. This practical experience helps them to develop essential skills and techniques. The lab offers a controlled setting for students to practice various construction skills, such as carpentry, masonry, electrical work, plumbing, and heavy equipment operation. These skills are critical for a successful career in construction. Safety is paramount in the construction industry. The lab allows students to learn and practice safety protocols and procedures, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries on real construction sites. the construction practice lab serves as a vital training ground, equipping individuals with the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to excel in the construction field while emphasizing safety and teamwork. It plays a pivotal role in preparing students for a successful career in construction.


RESEARCH CENTRE
Our state-of-the-art research centre is equipped with the latest tools and technologies, such as gas chromatography, spectrophotometers, RCPT apparatus, rebound hammer etc., to enable hands-on exploration and experimentation. In addition, computers with internet connectivity to access different journals are available for research scholars. Licenced software such as AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, ABAQUS, ANSYS, ETABS, BIM, MATLAB, Primavera, TOPCON, and GEOMAX is also available to carry out numerical investigations. They foster collaboration, encourage interdisciplinary research, and provide a dynamic environment for creativity and problem-solving. Our research facilities inspire and prepare the next generation of engineers to tackle real-world problems, drive innovation, and contribute meaningfully to the ever-evolving field of civil engineering.

PROJECT AND CONSULTANCY LABORATORY
Project and consultancy laboratory was established in the year 2022 and over an area of 48 sq.m. The major equipments in the laboratory includes Rapid Chloride Penetration Test equipment, Concrete Impact testing equipment, Rebound Hammer, Total Station, Line Laser Level, Standard Penetration test equipment, Rapid Moisture Meter. This laboratory is mainly focused on enhancing the project work of the students as well as Faculty those who are doing the research works. In addition, various consultancy works like Field Density Test, Bearing Capacity of Soil, Topographical Survey, Compressive strength of existing structures etc., have been carried out for our trusted clients through Consultancy with the help of our Faculty members.


MODEL LABORATORY
The Civil Engineering Models Lab is an integral part of civil engineering education and research, offering a unique learning environment focused on conceptual understanding and design exploration. These models, though not functional in the traditional sense, serve as invaluable tools for visualizing and conceptualizing intricate engineering concepts, designs, and theories.
